Model RL 01A (levels 5 and 6)

Warhammer25mmLord of the Rings Miniatures          Level 5 is interesting in that it has three separate entities with regards to rooms.  As the various roof tops terminate, we are left with two towers and the remaining primary structure.  One of the towers contains another secret room, while the other is a continuation of the shaft that descends to the first level.  The towers are stabilized by two small arches that span between them, and the base plate from the level above sits on top of them.

Supporting framework starts on this level for an exterior walkway above.  Fabrication of the walkway support is done with basswood (although balsa would also work).  The angle of the walkway support and the slope of the roof below create a nice variation in the piece to break the monotony of surfaces that want to only meet at 45 or 90 degrees.  Those ordering plans from our site do not need to worry about calculating tricky angles for fabricating the support or the walkway above it.  Detailed templates allow the builder to simply lay the pieces on the pattern, cut, and glue.  This method is very similar to building model airplane wings/bodies from scratch.

The largest room within this model is found on level 6.  It is designated as the living area for the master office.  A door leads to the exterior roof area, and a wooden walkway connects to the top of the tower.  The tower is like the prize at the end of an adventure.  In the plans it is referred to as a utility room, but this is where the imagination of a GM will surly take off:

“Would you happen to have a restroom?”  A PC asks the door attendant.

“Yes, …but it is on the 6th floor… You see that staircase straight ahead?”

          “Yes.”

“Simply go up those stairs, turn the corner, go up the stairs on the left, follow the hallway to the end, go up the stairs to the right, go through the door on the right, turn to the left and follow a short hall, go up the stairs at the end of that hall, turn left, go up the stairs to the top, turn and walk to the left, go out the door, follow the walkway, and at the end of the walkway is the restroom door.”

“Um… Is that your only restroom?”

“As of last year, yes.  You see, we used to have a restroom on the third floor, but the owner and tenants got fed up with people coming in off the street to use the bathroom;  ending up stinking the whole office complex to Yellowstone’s sulfury mud pots.  So the tenants of the complex, after much deliberation, decided to move the restroom to the exterior of the building top.”

“Thanks”, the PC says as he dashes up the stairs.

“2 silver pieces: that he will be back in 5 minutes requesting the key.”  A vendor comments to the door attendant.

“Naw… He wont be back… Once he exits the building on the sixth floor to go over to the tower, the door will lock behind him.  He is stuck on the roof for good.”

“… If Gomorrha was destroyed for its unfriendly acts toward strangers, how much more do you deserve to be burned? Anyway, can you watch my merchandise for a moment?  I need to use the bathroom on the third floor.”
